Creative Writing Day 2009
On Thursday 5th November the Creative Writing group enjoyed a visit from local author Beth Webb. The Creative Writing group, which meets once a week on a Thursday lunchtime every week, spent the whole day with Beth learning more about the nuts and bolts of what makes a good piece of writing, how to create a character and how to make setting seem realistic. Because the day took place on the day of Bonfire Night, we looked at some of the ancient Celtic traditions surrounding this time of year including Sam'hain and other ideas and beliefs. Beth also talked about her own novel Fire Dreamer which draws on some of these traditions.
Students worked until 4.30pm writing and refining their ideas under the tutilage of Beth. Masses of unique and original ideas were created and students were encouraged to blow bubbles whenever they had 'writer's block' to help free the imagination!
Everyone came away from the day with lots of planning for their story, a beginning and some developed ideas about character and setting and a big smile on their faces!
Sudents will be continuing to work on their stories in Creative Writing sessions. If any one would like to find out more about becoming a Creative Writer please come and see Mrs Hill!
