Pepperhill Farm Visit 2009
Year 8 Pepperhill Farm Visit!
During the last two weeks (Monday 28th September to Friday 9th October) Year 8 went on a trip to Pepperhill farm, which is an organic beef farm. Our tutor group – 8S – went with 8K on Friday 2nd October. We arrived at the farm at about 11:00am, and began by listening to the owner of the farm, Mr Heal, explaining about the different aspects of his farm. He talked us through the schedule of his day, and the certain jobs he has to do at different points in the year.We split up into our tutor groups, and 8S went on a walk with Mrs Heal around the fields and woodland. We ran down the hills and raced to a bench and a chair made out of fallen down trees. Mrs Heal pointed out some interesting things they have on their property, like badger sets and a natural spring. Near the end of the walk we had to draw the landscape we could see and annotate it.
When we returned to the barn we looked at some information boards to help us fill in the sheets we had been given. Then Mrs Heal showed us around the farm buildings and showed us the machinery: tractors, bailers, hay bob and the cattle crush – which holds the cow’s head in place while they are examined or treated. By the time we had finished the tour of the farm it was time to go back to school.
We had a great day at Pepperhill Farm.
