Arts Award
The Arts Award is a national qualification which supports young people in their development as artists and arts leaders.
The Arts Award fosters creative, communication and leadership skills and helps to prepare young people for further education and employment. The award is accessible to any young person aged 11 - 25 and embraces all cultural interests and backgrounds.
WHAT THE ARTS AWARD AIMS TO DO
Through the award we aim to:
- encourage our students to enjoy and take part in the arts, now and throughout their lives
- promote achievement in the arts
- provide opportunities for collaborative work and leadership that will promote our student's broader personal development
- help our students to find progression routes in the arts
- encourage new art forms, innovation and experimentation
WHAT IS MEANT BY THE ARTS?
The Arts Award recognises a wide range of arts activity:
- Performing Arts (eg music, dance, drama, storytelling, circus, mime, carnival, music theatre
- Visual arts, craft and design (eg drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, printmaking)
- Literature (eg poetry, fiction, journalism, scriptwriting, storytelling)
- Media and multimedia (eg photography, film, video, computer arts, games design, recorded music, live/performance art)
- New art forms and emerging cultural activity
- New combinations of any of these art forms
The Arts Award values high art, popular culture, and the arts of all countries and peoples. Young people may take part in many different ways, not only as creators of their own work, but also as performers, backstage helpers, front-of-house staff, technicians, camera operators, writers, editors, promoters, DJs, costume designers, prop makers, etc.
Arts Award Moderation
November 2008
Haygrove students were moderated in November 2008 and received their Bronze and Silver Award certificates from Mrs Canham, Headteacher.
