Introduction
This advice is part of a programme of guidance for Year 9 students. It helps them and their parents to make decisions about the choice of Key Stage 4 courses. This is repeated, together with detailed descriptions of each GCSE course, in a booklet issued to every Year 9 student.
- At Key Stage 4 students will take courses in the core subjects, English, Mathematics and Science.
- A Humanities subject and a Foreign Language subject also form part of each students' timetable. A Foreign Language is compulsory at this level for all students. Most students will choose a Design & Technology subject from those on offer. Students may choose Business Studies or Information & Communication Technology as alternatives.
- Physical Education is offered as a non-examination course for all studnets and as a GCSE choice.
- Spiritual, Moral, Social, Cultural and Citizenship Education will be components in a further GCSE course - Humanities.
- Students are asked to express one further preference from a list of subjects.
