Arts

NATIONAL ARTS AWARD - This is an initiative run through partnership between the Arts Council England and Trinity Guildhall and is a little similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme in that one has to complete various tasks at Bronze, Silver and Gold level but in the Creative Arts. Our students participating need to be committed, well-motivated and talented as there is a minimum of 15 hours adviser contact time and 15 hours independent learning required to complete the award and all practical work must be supported with portfolio evidence. An external examiner will then moderate all portfolios before awarding.

Music

Our students are encouraged to enter fully into the musical life of the school and to become involved in the orchestra, the choir, concerts, music evenings, and school production.

Students have access to tuition from visiting peripatetic instrumental specialists. Prices are set by Somerset Music, who bill parents directly, details of current charges can be obtained from them. In addition, we provide tuition by visiting teachers for non-orchestral instruments such as guitar, voice and piano.

Drama

Drama provides an ideal opportunity for our students to develop self-confidence and social skills. As well as being a subject which enjoys GCSE examination success, Drama also features as a very popular extra-curricular activity.

Our school productions are open to students from all years. These are always extremely popular and receive high acclaim. There is normally a lower school production at Christmas and a senior school production at Easter. There are regular theatre visits, as well as the opportunity to take part in our Theatre-in-Education days with touring companies.

Art and Design

Art and Design aims to provide the widest range of experience. Our policy of bringing the gallery experience into the classroom through artwork, slides, prints and books, is supplemented by visits to the Tate, National Galleries and an art residential course in St Ives, Cornwall.

Students' work is exhibited throughout the school and we have an annual Exhibition at the Bridgwater Arts Centre. Our Art club allows students to work during lunch time, and after school. Art is actively involved in a wide range of cross-curricular work, including our school productions and music evenings.
